I am currently working with Preeti and Donghun to develop a hybrid quantum network composed of nitrogen vacancy (NV) center spins and mechanical resonators. In particular, my experiment aims to use the NV’s sensitivity to crystal strain to mediate coherent interactions between the internal degrees of freedom of the NV and the phonon modes of a diamond mechanical resonator. These interactions may be used to probe several exciting quantum phenomena, such as long range spin-spin entanglement and ground state cooling of a macroscopic object.
